Dot the Letter D Preschool Activity

Themed activities are a fun way to reinforce learning.  Here is a low prep letter D activity to practice letter recognition, letter sound and fine motor skills.  

Letter D dot activity for preschool and toddlers

Items needed for the Letter D activity

  • Tempera paint, paint tray
  • Q-tips
  • Letter “Dd” written in block style on a sheet of paper (one for each student) 

Setup before the activity

  • Write the letter D on a sheet of paper using block style font or regular thin line font.  
  • Make copies, otherwise handwrite one for each student. 
  • Collect your q-tips, paint and trays.  

During the activity

  • Pass out the letter Dd sheet.  Encourage the students to trace the letter with their finger.
  • Squirt the paint onto paint trays and pass out.  Include a q-tip for each color. 
  • Encourage the students to practice making the D sound when they dot their picture. 

To extend the activity write the letter D on a sheet of paper using  a regular thin line.  Ask the students to make dot on the lines making a pattern using different colors.
